The results of the SubCTest project can be described as a system, consisting of sub-systems for phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT), alternating current field measurement (ACFM) and long range ultrasonic testing (LRUT).
Having developed techniques for PAUT subsystem, including a multi-skip technique for node welds and a creep wave technique for detecting surface cracks, the PAUT subsystem was abandoned because of the very high cost of marinisation of the probes.
Special array probes were developed for the ACFM subsystem to allow orbital scanning of a node weld in one pass, without noise caused by the intersecting nature of the pipes in a node. A simple manipulator for scanning the ACFM probe was developed and demonstrated with diver deployment.
The LRUT subsystem was developed the furthest to Technology Readiness Level TRL6, with actual ROV deployment.
